The World Around Us

What is The World Around Us?

It is the name given to the area of the primary curriculum that helps pupils to understand their environment, how it has changed over time and how we interact with our world.

Children are interested and curious about what is happening in the world around them. Before starting school, they will have had opportunities to explore their world in the home, the pre-school setting and the local area. These pre-school experiences will be built on, with the children’s natural curiosity being fostered.

Children will have opportunities to use their senses in order to develop their powers of observation, to be able to sort and classify, explore, predict, experiment, compare, plan, carry out and review their work.

This Area of Learning comprises the subjects of Geography, History and Science and Technology.
